Fundraising together, made simple

This page is for riding schools, clubs, yards, workplaces or community groups who want to organise something a bit bigger, or involve several people fundraising together.

You might already have an idea, or you might just know you want to do something as a group. Either way, we can help you take the next steps.

What do we mean by a group fundraiser?

A group fundraiser is usually:

  • Organised by a club, riding school, yard or group
  • Led by one or two organisers, with others taking part
  • Bigger than a solo challenge, but still supporter-led

Examples could include:

  • A riding club event, show or gymkhana
  • A yard open day or social event
  • A workplace or school fundraising day
  • A group challenge where everyone raises money together

Start with a simple plan

You don’t need to overcomplicate things. A few clear decisions will help everything else fall into place.

  • What is the activity or event?
  • Who is it for, and who will take part?
  • When and where will it happen?
  • How will people donate?

If horses are involved, ensure the activity suits the experience of riders and horses, and put safety first.

Fundraising together online

For group fundraising, an online platform like JustGiving works well. You could:

  • Set up one main fundraising page for the event
  • Ask individuals to create their own pages and link them together
  • Share one link across your group so donations are easy

This keeps everything in one place and makes it easier for people to support you.

Get ideas and practical tips

If you’re still shaping your plans, these pages can help:

You may enjoy taking part in a BHS challenge event as a group. For example, Rideathon is a great way to create a shared goal and fundraise together.

Local support and guidance

In some cases, our regional teams may be able to offer guidance or point you in the right direction. It can be worth getting in touch with your local Regional Manager to:

  • Check if there are existing activities you could link into
  • Get advice based on what works well in your area
  • Explore whether your event could connect with wider BHS activity

Planning something bigger?

If you're thinking about a large or particularly significant fundraiser, we would love to hear about it. This might include:

  • A high-profile event
  • A large group or multi-day fundraiser
  • Something involving partners, sponsors or media

Please email fundraising@bhs.org.uk with a brief outline of your idea. The fundraising team can then see how we might support or coordinate with you.

Before you go ahead

Please make sure you have:

  • Read our fundraising safely guidance
  • Checked any permissions, licences or insurance you may need
  • Made it clear your event is in aid of British Horse Society
