The Cross Country at Paris 2024 was set in the grounds of the Palace of Versaille, a spectacular location and realising a satisfying result for Team GB! Behind the scenes was a dedicated team of professional volunteers from the veterinary and medical services as well as officials and course builders, whose focus was on the safety and care of riders and horses.
Jim Green is well known to the BHS for his contribution in developing UK response to equine emergencies through his role in the fire and rescue service and as founder of BARTA. But you may not be so aware of the work going on behind the scenes to integrate the rescue techniques and methodology within UK disciplines of racing and eventing.
Jim supported the vet services team at London in 2012 and now, 12 years on, Paris 2024 displayed an unparalleled level of preparedness for response to an incident, based on new guidance, championed by Jim and stakeholders from the racing and eventing communities. In this talk Jim will give some background to the Olympic preparedness, giving a behind the scenes view of training in the picturesque Fontainebleau Military School of Equitation, the equipping of equine ambulances for casualty relocation and the plan for serious calamity such as a horse falling in to Le Grand Canal!
Looking forward Jim will outline how this learning and experience might lead to even greater awareness for event organisers and participants. Join us for an evening where there will undoubtedly be advice and knowledge we can all benefit from and apply to our equine activities.
